Syrian reporter killed by militant fire near Lebanon

DAMASCUS, Aug. 22 : (Xinhua) A Syrian journalist working for the Lebanese al-Manar TV died Saturday from wounds he sustained a day earlier as he was reporting on the clashes in a Syrian city near the Lebanese borders, the state news agency SANA reported.

Abdo Ali Jawad was hit Thursday while covering the clashes between the Syrian army backed by the Lebanese Hezbollah group and several jihadi groups in the flashpoint city of Zabadani, northwest of the capital Damascus, near the Lebanese borders.

The 23-year-old reporter was born in Syria’s central province of Homs. He had received several courses on covering conflicts and taken part in reporting from several hotspots in Syria for the al-Manar TV, the mouthpiece of Hezbollah.

Tens of reporters have been killed during the long running conflict in Syria. Last month, Thaer al-Ajlani, who worked for the pro-government Sham FM, was killed while reporting from the frontlines east of Damascus.
